MCF helped financed a portion of the construction of this special elementary school built by community members making cob (earth mixed with sand and straw) outside Myitkyina. Hope International trainers Claire and Glen inspired a new generation of teachers using the child-centered classroom approach. Pupils are taught in both their native language and Burmese. Enrollment is inclusive – open to all ethnic and religious groups.
The school has been nicknamed the “butterfly school” due to its flowing curved-line shape. The roofing materials are made from sustainably processed bamboo, which was taught in workshops offered by the Swindell Family Foundation through MCF.
